MY DAY: Vague Facebook posts… Super Bowl vs Downton Abbey

“This day sucks!”  A somewhat typical, vague post on Facebook.

Within minutes, the drama-folks are begging for information.

An evening of vague Facebook posts is about to begin.  I always crack up at the vague comments posted during televised sporting events.  Since I seldom know what is happening in the Wide World of Sports, I am initially puzzled by some comments I see.  Then, after several more friends post more items, I grasp the fact there is a game.

And, tonight is Super Bowl Sunday!

I will teach until 8:00 PM, and settle down to DOWNTON ABBEY.

My fellow Downtoners seldom post random, vague things while watching an episode.  Sometimes, I think it would be a hoot for those to begin popping up.

“I can’t believe she just said that… wait!  Yes, I can.”  (referring to any comment by Maggie Smith)

“Go easy on Mary!”  (addressed to Mr. Carson as he admonishes Lady Mary for giving up on life after her husband’s tragic death)

“Git ‘er!  Don’t let her try to take you down!”  (encouraging Isobel Crawley to not let Violet Crawley get the best of her)

“When’s Shirley coming back?”  (wanting Shirley MacLaine to return to a few episodes to spice things up)

“Oh, don’t be so stuffy!”  (always referring to Lord Grantham)

“Witch!”  (either a comment directed at Edith, or lady’s maid, O’Brien)

“Don’t drop the soap!”  (aimed at any young, good looking male guest who does not know underbutler Thomas Barrow is lurking in the shadows)

“Oh, why did she have to die?”  (Sniff… Poor Sybil…)

Tonight will be interesting.  Some vague-posts will be amusing, I am certain!

MY DAY: Sunday morning cooking…

I love it when my menu falls in place.

Well, despite my loathing for cooking, I do rise to the occasion, at times.

This morning, I decided to cook some homemade green beans, and bake two turkey breasts.  I placed the turkey in a baking dish, poured some turkey gravy (from a mix) over the meat, and then added some spices.  After entering it into the oven Olympics, I put the green beans in a large pan, added a can of Red Gold diced tomatoes with green chiles, a container of beef broth, and spices.

Then, I remembered a student’s grandmother had sent a large bag of homemade noodles.

Wallah!

I deboned the turkey breasts after they had baked, mixed them in with the noodles, made some mashed potatoes….

Excellent!

MY DAY: Theatre fatigue…

Yes.

I actually have theatre-fatigue.

1795603_10153806084580074_1546385115_nI slept well after seeing last night’s production, THE MAGIC FIRE, at Wright State University.  However, today, I crammed in two productions – Centerville High School’s ALL MY SONS, and then the Schuster Center’s Broadway Series, SISTER ACT.

After ALL MY SONS, I hurried home to potty and feed the dogs, then joined Jacob Nickel, and his dad, Rob, at Marion’s Pizza in Oakwood.  I had a blast!  Rob, retired from the US Navy, lived for a while in Virginia Beach while stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  And, he has an incredible passion for history, mainly Civil War era!  Woo hoo!  It was definitely great spending time with Rob and Jacob.

One of the nuns at the after party

One of the nuns at the after party

SISTER ACT was an absolute hoot!

We were nestled in good audience company – fun company, I should say.  The show is invigorating, and tons of fun.  Good, vibrant music, and clever lyrics that had me cracking up.1453415_10153806716320074_1213841960_n

After the performance, the Mathile Theater was opened up for a post-show, pre-Super Bowl Party with members of the cast.  It was fun seeing the cast members sharing their post-performance habits (there was alcohol involved).

What a fun two days of theatre… but tiring.

MY DAY: Weekend haul of theatre

In a few hours, this weekend’s theatre-fest will be over.

And, what a heck of a weekend it has been!

Friday night, Jacob Nickel and Suzanne Grote joined me for Wright State University’s production, THE MAGIC FIRE.  The play, itself, did not grab me, and to be honest, I had difficulty following the script.

However, the directing, and the acting, were superb!  Lee Merrill is quickly becoming one of my favorite play directors, ranking high with personal favorites, Joe Deer and Greg Hellems.

This afternoon, Jack joined me, again, bringing with him, his father, Rob.  We saw Centerville High School’s production of Arthur Miller’s, ALL MY SONS.

Wow!

And, this was their understudy cast’s performance.

My student, David Emery, who played Chris, tore up the stage.  Very impressive!  Two other castmates, Justin Mathews (Dr. Jim Bayless) and Ben Cobb (Joe Keller), also gave incredibly outstanding performers.  I would stack these three – from what I saw this afternoon – up on a stage with the Wright State actors who are an exceptional lot of performers.

Tonight, Jacob and I will dine at Marion’s Pizza, and then catch the 8:00 PM tour production, SISTER ACT.

I am excited to see SISTER ACT, as it will be a relief to laugh and enjoy singing and dancing after enjoying two very heavy dramas.  I am ready for this respite!

However, I don’t think I shall be as excited after witnessing such fine actors in educational settings.  Watch out, Theatre World, the Miami Valley will be sending you some fantastic young talent in the years to come!

MY DAY: An Die Musik

Happy birthday, Austrian composer Franz Schubert, 31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828.

In 1985, my voice teacher, Mary Hagopian, introduced me to this beautiful hymn to the art of music. An Die Musik is one of the best-known songs by Schubert.

Original German English Translation
Du holde Kunst, in wieviel grauen Stunden,
Wo mich des Lebens wilder Kreis umstrickt,
Hast du mein Herz zu warmer Lieb’ entzunden,
Hast mich in eine beßre Welt entrückt!

Oft hat ein Seufzer, deiner Harf’ entflossen,
Ein süßer, heiliger Akkord von dir
Den Himmel beßrer Zeiten mir erschlossen,
Du holde Kunst, ich danke dir dafür!

Oh lovely Art, in how many grey hours,
When life’s fierce orbit ensnared me,
Have you kindled my heart to warm love,
Carried me away into a better world!

How often has a sigh escaping from your harp,
A sweet, sacred chord of yours
Opened up for me the heaven of better times,
Oh lovely Art, for that I thank you!

MY DAY: Dog-tainment

I almost hate to leave for the middle school to teach saxophone, this morning.  The pups are in full entertainment form, and Chief is delighting in every moment of it.

484127_10153795157255074_984706758_nEach time I get out of bed in the middle of the night, I always return to find one, or both, pups laying on my pillow, or in my vacated spot.  Flyer and Navi always did this.

Their little personalities are developing, more and more, each day, and though I feel behind in my training, they are sheer joy.

Here is a video from this morning’s study-rompfest!

MY DAY: Wednesday morning

I returned from Beavercreek High School’s show choir rehearsal at 11:00 PM, Tuesday night.  The students worked hard, and grabbed on to the techniques I encouraged.

The Trio von Haasfur was eager to see me, and I was so thrilled that, for five hours, they behaved, and did not potty indoors!  Success!

Harrigan is a wet-greeter when she gets excited.  I’ve learned to not pick her up, or pet her until she has gone out to potty.  Sigh… I hope this is Puppy-Temporary.

This morning, I woke around 5:30 AM, battling sinus congestion, and tremendous pressure.  I’ve been doing two sinus flushes each day, and keeping up on my Airborn and other cold/sinus battling meds.  I also have three humidifiers continuously running.

Feeling miserable, at the moment, but am hoping there is improvement.

MY DAY: A cold week

DSC05604The past several weeks have yielded some interesting weather for the Miami Valley.  A lot of snow, and some tremendously cold days.  This morning, area thermometers read between -13 and -8.

I’ve made a lot of chicken vegetable soup over the past several weeks, as well as a Paula Dean recipe for chicken pot pie, which, in my opinion, was absolutely wonderful.

Today, as with several days last week, I am on an altered schedule.  Today’s lessons will be between 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  Five students took their lessons Monday evening.

At 6:00 PM I will head to Beavercreek High School for a heavy duty vocal rehearsal with the show choir.  I always enjoy working with this ensemble.

Today, I’ve worked from my desk while the dogs, who generally sleep here in my study as I work, decided to snuggle together in the guest bedroom.  Since Navi’s death last December, Chief no longer sleeps on the bed by the door to the deck.  He’ll sleep on the floor, but does not nap in the old location he use to share with his sister.

I attempted to take a “one month later” photo of the girls, and my self.  Not easy.  I set the timer, and held them as long as I could.  After a few seconds, they were squirming, and wanting down.

Stay warm, everyone!

MY DAY: Grandma Coo-coo

Grandpa Garrett & Grandma Belle a.k.a. Grandpa & Grandma Coo-coo

Grandpa Garrett & Grandma Belle a.k.a. Grandpa & Grandma Coo-coo

Today, in 1969, 45 years ago, my great-grandmother, Mary Belle Jones Clary, died.  I got to know this great-grandmother, and spent a good deal of time with her.  Grandma Belle, for me, was known as “Grandma Coo-coo.”  In fact, they were both  Grandma & Grandpa Coo-coo.

As a toddler, Grandpa Garrett/Coo-coo, would take me over to their coo-coo clock, and wind the hands so the coo-coo bird would come out to sing for me.  Thus, I affectionately associated this dear couple with the coo-coo clock.

I can still vividly remember Grandma Belle.  She was one of the most gentle souls I’ve ever known, and possessed, perhaps, the largest of hearts known to many in our home town of Elwood, Indiana.

JONES - Alpha, BelleShe was raised in Boone Township, just a few miles north of Elwood, in Madison County.  There she lived all but the last six years of her life.  In 1966, Grandma & Grandpa Clary retired from farming, and moved into Elwood, a few blocks north of where I grew up on Main & Ninth Streets.

Grandma Belle’s daughter, my maternal grandmother, Donna Clary Barmes, babysat me a good deal during my toddler years, and we spent a good deal of time with Grandma Belle.  She had a tender heart, and always made room for me on her lap, holding me there with tight, loving hugs.  Her eyes were always filled with light, and her smiles were never interrupted.

I can still remember this day, 45 years ago.  I was four and one half years old, but the day remains with me.

Grandma Belle had been ill for quite a spell, and I was at her home the day they took her to the hospital for the last time.  I can remember her turning to me from where she lay on the gurney, and smiling.  “I love you, Sweetie.”  That was the last time I saw her.

CLARY - Belle, Diana, Darin, Donna, 1964That Wednesday, I was with Mother as she ran some errands.  She’d stayed the night at the hospital with Grandma Belle, and Grandpa Garrett.  We had just returned from the hair dresser, and entered the house as the phone was ringing.  Mother answered the phone, still holding the round, shiny black container that held her “fall” (a hairpiece).   I was standing by the front door, still wearing my coat, and saw the container drop to the floor.  I knew something was wrong, but could not interpret the muffled conversation.

Mother pulled me onto the sofa, and explained that Grandma Coo-coo had gone to heaven with the angels.  I don’t remember my reaction 45 years ago, but today, tears fill my eyes.

CLARY - Garrett, Donna, Belle, JoyceThe funeral, like this day 45 years ago, has not dimmed.  I remember the heavy rain showers that followed her death, melting the extensive snow.  It rained, too, the day we bid the dear soul farewell, and I remember my Aunt Vivian (Jones), Grandma Belle’s sister-in-law, saying, “Even the angels are crying with us, today.”

Whenever rain accompanies a death, I always think of the angels shedding tears.

I was a lucky little chap to have known so many of my preceding generations.  In fact, until a few years ago, I still had a good deal of my great-great uncles and aunts living, and a tremendous amount of great-uncles and aunts.

I was even luckier to have briefly known Grandma Coo-coo.  I have no doubts the choirs of angels sang her to her rest 45 years ago, and that she immediately joined their chorus.

Another great-grandmother, Thelma Daugherty Barmes, died seven years before I arrived on the scene.  She, too, died in January.  Grandma Thelma, the mother of my maternal grandfather, Leroy Barmes, was a vocalist and pianist.

MY DAY: Grateful for cold-weather

I know the title probably sounds bizarre to many of my friends here in the Midwest, especially when the thermometer reads 8°.

While I am not overly fond of cold weather, I cannot dismiss it entirely. In fact, I am grateful for the cold weather. It encourages me to appreciate the warmer weather a good deal more.

I am grateful I am healthy, and capable of getting outside to enjoy any kind of weather. There are so many who are housebound, and suffer such great infirmities that they cannot move about their own homes with ease, let alone the outside.

I will take any kind of weather as long as I am physically capable of doing so. Plus, I love variety and living here in Ohio offers me a tremendous variety of weather.

MY DAY: One month of heartbreak

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.”
– Winnie The Pooh

It’s been one month since the heartbreak of losing Navi began.

The house has resumed ringing with laughter, and great joy due to the arrival of Harrigan and Bailey nearly one month ago, but there’s still a huge, sad hole that can never be refilled.

One day, at the Rainbow Bridge…

MY DAY: The Lost Supper

Thursday night, I actually pre-planned supper since I would teach until 9:00 PM, and then busy myself with preparations for the long weekend of judging show choirs in Beavercreek.

While my last students were arriving, I put a meat tray in the oven: chicken Parmesan with marinara sauce.  One of my favorites.  I also prepped mashed potatoes and corn.

For me, this is the perfect mid-winter dinner.

By 9:30 PM, I was seated at my desk with a delicious smelling plate beside me.  I had not eaten since 11:30 AM, and I was starving!  I took a few bites, and proceeded to work on emails and business.

I heard the silverware drawer rattling.  As I looked down, only Bailey and Chief remained at my side, waiting with anticipation lest I drop any bites.

In the kitchen, Harrigan was scaling the three kitchen drawers like a rock-climber, or folks at those climbing walls!  She carefully placed her paws on the C-shaped handles, and maneuvered her way toward the counter.

I set her down, offered a firm, “No,” and returned to my study to take in a third bite of food.

I returned to my work.

After a good ten minutes, I became aware that only Bailey and Chief remained at my side.

In the kitchen, Harrigan was on the counter.  The meat tray had one messy slice, the mashed potatoes had disappeared, and she was visibly enjoying the corn.

I set her down on the floor, and proceeded to clean up the mess she’d made.  I also washed her face which was stained with orange from the marinara sauce, and the mashed potatoes from her ears.

I returned to my study…

…to find Bailey had climbed, or jumped, onto my high desk chair, and was standing on my desk licking the plate that had, only moments before, been filled with savory eats.

My meal, save the three bites from my originally planned fare, was now a can of chicken vegetable soup.

MY DAY: Always follow your drea— Sniff! Follow your sniff!

I was amused at how quickly Bailey and Harrigan acquired the art of “the sniff.”  It did not take them long, at all.

Now, at 12 weeks old, they are professional sniffers.  In fact, they seem to enjoy sniffing more than Chief.  At least they stop more frequently than Chief to see who’s been in their neighborhood.

At first I believed Navi and Chief, as puppies, learned their dog habits from Flyer, and that Harrigan and Bailey were learning theirs from Chief.  However, it hit me!  There were no older dogs around from whom Flyer could learn her dog habits.  She figured them out.

The girls have definitely gotten bigger.

Their personalities are becoming more defined.

For several weeks, they’ve learned The Haasienda’s system, and routine.  They follow it, nicely.

They still:

  • are very cute and adorable
  • love to snuggle
  • are glued to me
  • are glued to Chief
  • are glued to students and families and friends, and
  • are tremendous bright spots in the home

I love how they feel the need to sniff anyone who walks into the house, especially those who have pets!

They know!

MY DAY: Beavercreek Invitational – Middle School Show Choirs

I look forward to this competition each year.

DSC04971I love spending time with my fellow show choir judges: J.D. Smith, Ron Morgan, and Brian Nabors.  Normally, Kevin Manley is a part of our quintet, but Kevin is taking the year off.

Tonight was middle school night.  Tomorrow morning begins the high school competition with the finals commencing in the evening.

It is wonderful to see all the parents, and the regular show choir troops during the evening.

DSC04976As has been the custom, BHS Show Choir Parents overextend themselves in hospitality.  I know the audience experiences tremendous care and warmth, but we judges make out like happy bandits!  I’ve learned that the New Year’s resolution of beginning to watch meal portions, calories, etc. must wait until the Beavercreek Midwest Show Choir Invitational is over.  It’s foolish to even think about such things during this weekend.

Tomorrow, I will spend most of my day with soloists, assisted by two dear ladies, Shawnee Breitenstein, and Kelly Huntington Eveleth, both moms of my students, and sound man, Shawn Rifner.  Being surrounded by this crew will be one of the best parts of my day!

Tonight, I returned home shortly before 10:30 PM, and had the most joyful, thrilling greeting from three fury pals!  I thought they were going to knock me over.

I’ve downloaded photos from this evening, prepped for tomorrow, pottied the critters, and at 12:00 AM, I am actually heading to bed much earlier than I ever have before.

MY DAY: Puppies & Show Choirs

It’s Thursday night, and the teaching week is almost over.  Tomorrow, I will have eight students, finishing by 4:45 PM.

Immediately after teaching I will hurry to Men’s Warehouse to pick up my tuxedo, and then on to Beavercreek High School where I will judge middle school show choirs the remainder of the evening.

I am excited because one of my college roommates, Micah Thomas, will be coming to the competition with his daughter’s middle school.  Micah is the principal of South Dearborn High School in Aurora, Indiana.  This will be our first time to see one another in nearly 25 years.  I am so excited.

I will return home around midnight, and be back at the school by 9:00 AM for more judging.  By 7:00 PM I will take the stage for the evening finals, serving as the MC.  Last year, I returned home by 2:00 AM.

A long, tiresome weekend, but always one of my favorite weekends.  It will be the longest time away from the pups.

MY DAY: PIP (01-15-2014)

Pups in Progress…

1601212_10153719436750074_527442526_nI don’t think Chief and I could be happier.  Naturally, the heartache of Navi’s absence is still great, but we are laughing, enjoying life, and keeping up with two energetic little gals.

The students, and their families, have been wonderful in their excitement, and support.  The parents seem almost more excited than the children when the puppies are out in the front room.

Potty training is still on a successful track.  “Sit” is fairly solid.  While continually working on “no chew” and “no jump” I do need to hit, “come.”  But, first things, first.

1524821_10153740355140074_1573743022_nSo far, the past two weeks, when returning from teaching at the middle school, I’ve returned after five hours away to find no potty-messes!  Triumph.  But, I do enter the house to a tumultuous greeting.

Tonight, after teaching, I ate some delicious potato soup made by a student’s mother, and watched the girls expanding their repertoire of playfulness.  Bailey was laying low, stalking Harrigan.  The girls run from one end of the house to the other, often sliding into walls, me, doors, etc..  It’s hilarious.

DSC04944And, the exploring is never ceasing.  They love investigating anything, and everything.

I am still in awe as to how quickly they’ve become MY dogs.  They are so devoted to me, and quite attached to me, and to Chief.  They feel secure, at home, and loved.  And, they received a ton of love from students, their families, and our family friends.

1530343_10153740714330074_1228492563_nAt night, the girls love snuggling next to me.  In fact, they often compete over who gets to be the closest to Dad.  Bailey often crawls up on my pillow, pressing her snout into my nose.  Most often, she falls asleep in this position, but soon moves to snuggle under my chin.

While I do love the puppiness, I am excited, and quite eager, for the more adult dog.  I loveDSC04942 being able to trust them a little more so that we can have more fun with some expectations in place.  However, when we get to the corner at the stoplight, or a street corner to cross, they know to sit, before I give the command, “Go.”

It’s almost time for our last potty-session for the evening, and then snuggling into bed.

I do feel blessed with my three little pals, and continue to love the four (Pokey, Logan, Flyer, Navi) who wait patiently at the Rainbow Bridge.

MY DAY: A dog-lover’s poem

This morning, I woke to this beautiful poem sent by Mary Hutcheson.  I think every dog/pet lover will appreciate this!  Thank you, Mary!

540310_458786134135197_1970192329_n

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
“It’s me, I haven’t left you, I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I’m not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said ” it’s me.”

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over… I smile and watch you yawning
and say “good-night, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.”
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I’ll rush across to greet you and we’ll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out… then come home to be with me.

MY DAY: PIP (01/12/2014)

Pups In Progress continues right along.

The potty training is 98% there.

We are working on everything “no jump,” “no chew,” and “come.”

Bailey and Harrigan are still doing a great job on walks, and are an absolute delight with students and their families.

They fight like sisters, and always want the same chew toy that the other has.

Chief tolerates the girls climbing over him, and when he tires of their antics, he simply moves to another room, or gives a little growl, letting them know it’s time for them to leave him alone.

Harrigan seems to be growing the most, and is becoming quite bigger than Bailey.

They certainly are a joy, and tremendous therapy.

MY DAY: The Extra Bed

Tonight, I decided to sleep in the guest bedroom. The one twin bed was claimed by Navi and Chief when I first rearranged rooms last May.

I figured the pups would join me in the one twin bed, while Chief nestled on the bed to which he has been accustomed.

Not so.

The girls climbed up into the chair, needing assistance to get onto my bed. Chief walked over to his bed, looked it over, and then promptly returned to this side of the room and joined us in bed.

MY DAY: “If Navi Could Speak”

A student’s parent wrote this for Navi. I absolutely love it! Thank you, Missy (and Becca)!

If Navi Could Speak
If Navi could speak I wonder what she would say?
Maybe, “How are you doing on this nice, fine day?”
She would say “Oh, how I loved all the flowers and trees.
And walking next to my friend with pants up to his knees.”
She would say, “I see Flyer and my kitty cat friend too.
There’s a young man here and he kind of looks like you.”
She would say “This place glistens of gold like the coming of dawn.
There’s a special bridge here that I keep my eye on.”
She would say how she misses you and wishes you near.
“But, for now I will stay and wait for you here.”

MY DAY: Cabbage Roll Soup

I am not a fan of new recipes, but now, and then, I get on a kick.

This morning, someone on Facebook posted they were making cabbage roll soup.  I’ve tried cabbage rolls, and liked them, but I am a soup person.  I checked on ingredients, and then went off on my own journey of soup making.

I don’t measure, but this is what I used:

  • two heads of cabbage
  • 2lbs of ground chuck
  • white rice
  • chopped celery
  • chopped onion
  • chopped green pepper
  • chopped carrot
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • diced tomatoes
  • 2-3 cans of Red Gold tomato juice (it’s manufactured in my home town, Elwood, Indiana)

My slow cooker is filled to the top, as are two large pans on the stove.  I will be giving some of it away, and freezing several containers.

I’ve tried two bowls, and it is delicious!

MY DAY: The Gate – A new 2104 Olympic event?

Several times upon returning home, I’ve found all three dogs in the living room.  The kitchen gate, which is one of two, is always open.

photoLast night, I returned home to find the gate closed.  Chief, who can easily jump the gate, was in the living room.  Harrigan was with him.  Bailey was in the kitchen, yelping because she could not be teamed with the others.

The kitchen gate was closed.

Last week, I discovered Harrigan could scale the small  children’s gate I used to secure my study.  As a student and I sat at the piano, we watched, with amusement, as Harrigan easily climbed the gate from the hallway-side, and hurled herself onto the study’s carpet.

I cannot begin to figure how Harrigan managed to climb the gate…

Of course, once upon a time, nearly three years ago, this little fellow was scaling a shelf-unit to make his way to the top of the stove….

MY DAY: 2014 Winter Puppy Olympics

The 2014 Winter Puppy Potty Olympics have continued, despite the frigid conditions.

Harrigan and Bailey continue to medal in both events, while Chief still holds The Shroyer Arena record for distance.

Harrigan is learning that if she does not comply with all the rules of each event, she does not medal (get a treat). And Bailey, like her predecessor, Navi, is all out food. She never fails to comply with the international Olympic committee rules.

MY DAY: Pups In Progress (01.05.2014)

There’s not much new to report.  Several lessons resumed this weekend, and Harrigan and Bailey snuggled under the piano bench, quite content with the new sounds coming from, what has been known until yesterday as, the ‘forbidden room.’

I blocked the room off upon their arrival, however, a few days ago, I discovered a set of ‘puppy tracks’ (our word for ‘poop’).  I knew it was not Chief’s as it was far too petite.

Yesterday, during the lessons, Harrigan seemed to lay claim to the set of puppy tracks as she easily climbed over the gate, landing on the study-side.

We had some fun walks, and the girls seemed to love playing in the snow.  I will actually miss the snow as it has assisted me in revealing our potty-progress!

During our 2014 Potty Olympics, the girls have quickly learned how to get two treats per session!  They will go potty (#1), come get their treat, and then scamper back out for ‘more potty’ (#2) so they can earn a second treat!  I love it!
